Sea Cargo Service Guide & FAQs

How sea freight from Perth to Sri Lanka works, answers to common questions, and how to prepare your shipment before you submit.

About Our Sea Cargo Service

Elegance Cargo International provides sea cargo shipping from Perth, Western Australia to Sri Lanka. You submit your packing details and sender/receiver information using the sea cargo declaration form, and our team arranges the rest — including shipping and delivery to your chosen address in Sri Lanka, or collection from the Peliyagoda warehouse if that is more convenient for the recipient.

Sea cargo items are typically packed in tea chest boxes or custom-sized boxes. Contact us before submitting if you have questions about box types or item eligibility.

After a successful submission you will receive an HBL number and a PDF confirmation is available to download on the confirmation page; a copy is also sent by email. Use your HBL number on our tracking page to check the current status of your shipment. Status updates are posted by our team as the shipment progresses.

Preparing Your Shipment

General preparation tips informed by Australia Post guidance. Elegance Cargo acceptance conditions apply; ask our team before packing an uncertain item.

Before you pack

Every destination has its own rules. Before packing, check whether your items can be sent, confirm any overseas requirements for Sri Lanka, and note the dimensions of each box or package. Australia Post's general sending overview is a useful starting point for restrictions and requirements.

Addressing the sender and receiver

Write the name first, then the street address, then the suburb or city with state or district and postcode on their own line, and the country last. Check the suburb and postcode match. A well-formed Australian sender address looks like:

Sample Sender
12 Example Street
PERTH WA 6000
AUSTRALIA

For the Sri Lankan receiver, use the structured address fields in the declaration form (address, city, district, postal code) so nothing is missed.

Describe the goods accurately

Accurate descriptions can help avoid customs delays when contents are described specifically — what each item is and what it is made of. Vague terms like "gifts" or "personal items" are not enough. Write, for example, "3 cotton shirts" or "2 paper notebooks" rather than just "clothes". Your Elegance declaration helps, but does not replace any separate customs documentation your shipment may require.

Packing for the journey

Use strong, good-condition boxes and seal them with proper packing tape. Cushion the contents so nothing shifts, and fill empty space to stop items moving in transit. Sturdy packaging protects your goods but never makes a prohibited or otherwise restricted item acceptable — packing well does not change what Elegance Cargo can carry.

Measurements Elegance Cargo needs

Standard tea chest boxes need no measurements. Each non-standard box must be measured — record its length, width and height in centimetres in the declaration.

These are Elegance Cargo's own requirements, not Australia Post limits.

What Elegance Cargo can carry

What we can carry is set by our own acceptance conditions and the declaration you sign. Alcohol, cigarettes, electrical goods and medication are excluded, and nothing may be packed in commercial quantities (no more than 3 of any food or grocery item). See the declaration form for the full acceptance conditions. If you are unsure about an item, ask us before packing.
