Air Cargo Service Guide & FAQs

How air freight from Perth to Sri Lanka works, answers to common questions, and how to prepare your shipment before you submit.

About Our Air Cargo Service

Elegance Cargo International offers air cargo from Perth, Western Australia to Sri Lanka for shipments where speed matters. You submit your packing details and sender/receiver information using the air cargo declaration form, and our team arranges the rest — including delivery to your chosen address in Sri Lanka, or collection from the Peliyagoda warehouse if that suits the recipient.

Air cargo rates are based on chargeable weight, which is the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight of your shipment. Contact us before submitting if you need help estimating the chargeable weight or a rate indication.

After a successful submission you will receive an HBL number and a PDF confirmation is available to download on the confirmation page; a copy is also sent by email. Use your HBL number on our tracking page to check the current status of your shipment. Status updates are posted by our team as the shipment progresses.

Air Cargo — Frequently Asked Questions

What is chargeable weight?
Chargeable weight is the higher of your shipment's actual weight and its volumetric (dimensional) weight. Airlines use this measure because bulky but light items still occupy space in the aircraft. Contact us before booking if you want help estimating this for your shipment.
What is the advantage of air cargo over sea cargo?
Air freight is significantly faster than sea shipping, making it the right choice when personal effects are needed urgently. Note that electronics are not permitted on air cargo — see the declaration form for the full list of forbidden items.
What are the delivery options in Sri Lanka?
Your cargo can be delivered to your recipient's address in Sri Lanka, or made available for collection from the Peliyagoda warehouse. You select your preferred delivery type in the declaration form.
What is an HBL number?
HBL is the reference number assigned to your consignment by Elegance Cargo. After a successful submission, your HBL number is shown on the confirmation page and a PDF is available to download. A copy is also sent by email. Enter your HBL number on our tracking page to check the current status of your shipment.
What items are accepted for air cargo?
Air cargo is for personal effects only — clothes, dry food, toys, and stationery are the examples in the declaration. If you are unsure whether a specific item is eligible, contact us before submitting.
What cannot be sent as air cargo?
The declaration form lists the following as forbidden: any electronics (laptops, phones, tablets — phone chargers are OK), batteries, aerosols, perfumes, nail polish, lighters, matches, alcohol, compressed gases, chemicals, detergents, paints, fuels, and adhesives. The full forbidden list is shown on the declaration form. Contact us if you have a borderline item.
How do I submit an air cargo declaration?
Complete the air cargo declaration form with your sender and receiver details and a description of your items. On successful submission your HBL number is shown immediately and a confirmation PDF is available to download.
How do I get a rate indication or find out more?
Call us on +61424722929 or email info@elegancecargo.com.au. We can advise on chargeable weight, eligible items, and whether air or sea cargo is the better fit for your needs.

Preparing Your Shipment

General preparation tips informed by Australia Post guidance. Elegance Cargo acceptance conditions apply; ask our team before packing an uncertain item.

Before you pack

Every destination has its own rules. Before packing, check whether your items can be sent, confirm any overseas requirements for Sri Lanka, and note the dimensions of each box or package. Australia Post's general sending overview is a useful starting point for restrictions and requirements.

Addressing the sender and receiver

Write the name first, then the street address, then the suburb or city with state or district and postcode on their own line, and the country last. Check the suburb and postcode match. A well-formed Australian sender address looks like:

Sample Sender
12 Example Street
PERTH WA 6000
AUSTRALIA

For the Sri Lankan receiver, use the structured address fields in the declaration form (address, city, district, postal code) so nothing is missed.

Describe the goods accurately

Accurate descriptions can help avoid customs delays when contents are described specifically — what each item is and what it is made of. Vague terms like "gifts" or "personal items" are not enough. Write, for example, "3 cotton shirts" or "2 paper notebooks" rather than just "clothes". Your Elegance declaration helps, but does not replace any separate customs documentation your shipment may require.

Packing for the journey

Use strong, good-condition boxes and seal them with proper packing tape. Cushion the contents so nothing shifts, and fill empty space to stop items moving in transit. Sturdy packaging protects your goods but never makes a prohibited or otherwise restricted item acceptable — packing well does not change what Elegance Cargo can carry.

Measurements Elegance Cargo needs

Measure every package's length, width and height in centimetres and weigh it in kilograms. Air freight is billed on chargeable weight — the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight — so accurate figures matter.

These are Elegance Cargo's own requirements, not Australia Post limits.

What Elegance Cargo can carry

What we can carry is set by our own acceptance conditions and the declaration you sign. Electronics, batteries, aerosols, perfumes, flammables and other dangerous goods are not accepted on Elegance Cargo air shipments. See the declaration form for the full acceptance conditions. If you are unsure about an item, ask us before packing.
